Confused about Globes

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Globes were described in wattage, ie 40W, 60W, 100W this is the actual power consumed, not the brightness. Lumens (lm) is the right term for brightness.

For example:
old 60w globe = +- 650 lm uses 60w of power
CFL 11w = +-600 lm uses only11w of power
LED 6w = +-470 lm uses only 6w of power

Hence LED globes are the most efficient and last longest.

The old incandescent globe are now discontinued, and have now been replaced with the halogen globe.

Also introduced are CFL (Compact Fluorescent) and LED (Light Emitting Diode) globes, Carbon Filament, etc.
